Well I wasn’t going to take any chances missing out on Showtime’s Dexter panel, which meant I had to suck it up, get in line early and and sit through panels that I didn’t necessarily want to see.
Still, it could have been so much worse.
While The CW’s new romantic crime procedural isn’t exactly up my alley, I can see the appeal the show might have for certain viewers.
The show definitely re-imagines and modernizes the classic Linda Hamilton / Ron Perlman Beauty And The Beast show from the 80′s, and the genre is a good fit for a youth-orientated network like The CW.
It also doesn’t hurt that the new beast isn’t
a freaky ass lion-man with a mullet.
Despite an inspired updating of the origin of “The Beast” by grounding his primal nature and physical deformities in a military experiment gone wrong, it’s still ridiculous the guy is considered feral because his jaw and face veins jut out when he gets angry, and that the rest of the time he just has a dinky scar.
Yeah, that tiny mark on his cheek totally negates his buff bod, chiseled jaw
and luxurious chestnut bangs that flap oh-so-perfectly in the wind.
After the screening the cast took the stage for a Q&A. It was evident by both her performance in the show and the way she handled herself live that Kristen Kreuk is a consumate professional, and Jay Ryan teased the audience by suggesting that he may have a female beast counterpart out there somewhere.
